DID YOU KNOW...?

Premenstrual syndrome or PMS is a disorder that occurs in the second half of the menstrual cycle, that is, one or two weeks before menstruation, and lasts until the first or second day of menstruation.

It involves physical and emotional symptoms such as mood swings, irritability, anxiety, fatigue, breast tenderness, bloating, water retention, acne, headache, ... affecting between 70-90% of women throughout their reproductive life, and in almost half of them, the symptoms are so intense that they can affect their quality of life.

There is no single cause given the diversity of symptoms, but changes in hormone concentrations such as progesterone and estrogen hormones, and changes in neurotransmitters such as serotonin and endorphins, have been observed.

Different experts recommend a series of habits and lifestyle guidelines for women with PMS that can help them cope better with symptoms, such as:

  • Healthy and balanced diet: avoiding caffeine, salt, and sugar and consuming complex carbohydrates, polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidant-rich foods, good intake of vitamins and minerals, and hydration.
  • Engaging in moderate physical exercise or relaxation activities (yoga, meditation, etc.)
  • Adequate rest and sleep
  • It may be helpful to use a dietary supplement with natural plant extracts, vitamins, ... that contributes to the general well-being of women.

In this last point, herbal medicine has proven to be a good natural alternative. It has been used for over 500 years and is based on the use of certain plants with recognized beneficial medicinal properties.

In this regard, chasteberry is a plant used since ancient times for a variety of gynecological disorders as it helps maintain physiological well-being during the menstrual cycle. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a fatty acid produced naturally in mammalian tissues, polydatin acts as an antioxidant, and Vitamin B6 helps reduce tiredness and fatigue, contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity, normal energy metabolism, and normal psychological function.
